Seconds

Sometimes at home, or when visiting friends or relatives, we share a meal. After finishing our plate full of food, they ask us would you like some more. In our house we call it ‘Seconds’. Would you like some more? Silly question. Of course I would like some more. It was delicious. But should I have some more? No way. Another plateful?

The habit of more!

Having a second plateful, or more food is a bad habit. I definitely used to do this. Cook so much food, have a plateful, then see some more left in the cooking pan. ‘Oh I’ll just finish that off’. Without even thinking I could be taking in a lot of calories for no real value. But I’ve had the meal! I’m full!

The one plate rule.

So now I have a little rule. I put on my plate what I think I need. And that’s it. No more. No going back. It’s a good habit to get into. Tricky at first, but after a while it’s great.

Now I don’t even think about it. And your stomach gets trained to only expect one plateful which makes life a lot easier.
