Exercise in your everyday

Inserting exercise into your everyday can be a great way to increase activity.

The Bus

If you get the bus to work, try getting off the bus one stop before you usually do. Then walk the rest of the way. Do that every day and your exercise is there without hardly trying.

The stairs

If you work in an office block, try taking the stairs. Try just one flight of stairs. If you’re on the second floor and you have a meeting on the sixth floor, get the lift to the fifth then walk the last flight. Or walk to the third then take the lift from third to sixth, that way you have time to recover.

Walk to work

There has been a big change with more people working at home. One of the things people who work at home like to tell you is that they have the shortest commute ever. They just walk downstairs. So here’s an idea. Walk to work. Leave the house and walk thirty minutes away, then walk back home. You will start the day feeling so much better. Or if you work at home, try going for a walk during the day.

Exercise with work colleagues

If you work with others in an office, some of them may well want to exercise too. Doing it together can be very supportive and motivational.
