My Dad was an Electrical Engineer by trade. But his mind was always curious, searching out facts / data on anything and everything of interest to him. He built his own computer. He built his own windows. He thought about things.
He noticed in his retirement that he would put on a little weight. He ate regular pretty healthy meals. He ate fresh fruit every day. Once this happened he would take action. He would stop eating his 11 o’clock biscuit, or maybe cut down to just half a biscuit.
He stopped eating his eleven o’clock biscuit for three months. Then he would check on his weight. Then again after six months. And there it was. Gone. The little extra weight, gone.
His diet, by diet I mean what he ate, didn’t change too much from week to week and month to month. So making a small change over a long period made a difference.
So what did I learn from the eleven o’clock biscuit?
- Identify a change you can make.
- Set long term goals.
- Don’t expect a short term gain.
- Do expect a long term gain.
